POSSUM, SUBARU AND PIRELLI Possum Bourne grabbed his seventh straight Australian Rally Championship at the Rally of Melbourne this weekend and gained a place in ARC history as the driver with the greatest number of Championship victories. Possum's comments on the season and this victory reveal the spirit of a true sportsman: "We all knew it was never going to be easy: the beginning of the year was frankly very ordinary with all kinds of issues tipping the scales against our Team. But this season has also taught me a valuable lesson on the importance of keeping the momentum going and nurturing the passion and the energy. Sure, machines, tyres and luck all play an important part, but at the end of the day what helped me the most was the knowledge that I could rely 110 % on every Team member to do his or her job with outstanding dedication. The trick has been to keep that fire and passion going even when results were not looking good at all. When you refuse to allow you heart to sink, you are planting the seed for Victory". "My relationship with Pirelli goes back a long time: today some of the most critical decisions such as tyre selection are made at a moment's notice. Especially when conditions change rapidly, it is vital to know you have the full understanding and support of tyre fitters and technicians on the ground. I cannot thank Pirelli enough for their competence and commitment over this season and over the years: they have been an absolutely critical factor in the success of the whole team". |
